Your kitchen is the centrepiece of your home. You spend hours in a day preparing meals and drinks. Let’s cut to the chase and check out the most popular trends new trends that continue until the end of the year and spill into the next.
In 2018, kitchen
designs were all about timber veneers, metallic colours and personalization. Solid colours and bold textures made a pretty contrast. Pastels added a pretty touch against grey and wood. Much of it continues into the next year, with a richer finish.
2019 Kitchen Trends
For a darker hue, think teal blue. It is bold and beautiful, making a dramatic statement everywhere. This does not mean you have to splash all the walls with shade. Use it sparingly, as a pop of colour to break away from the monotony of white. Use on accent walls, backsplashes and accessories. Other dramatic options are olive green and the colours of spices.
Layout designs depend on the space available. If you have it, flaunt it with two islands instead of one. The first works as a breakfast bar; the other can work as a place for dining or a work surface for food prep or a place to keep your appliances.
Open shelves are more popular to arrange small accessories or provide a setting to display greenery such as home-grown herbs. Hidden storage helps keep older cookware and appliances such as the microwave, refrigerator and blender out of sight. Internal drawers and tall larder storage make their way in. Short cabinets are out. Tall cabinets that climb all the way to the ceiling are in. They look more attractive, increase storage space and make the kitchen appear bigger.
Cabinets and Countertops
Do away with speckled or brown granite. Welcome modern granite finishes that come in wide range of choices. A new trend for the new year will be a metallic accent. Gold or copper tones garnish taps, faucets, cabinet handles and countertops giving a rich, opulent finish without breaking the bank.
Wood has been used to build houses for thousands of years. It continues to dominate kitchens this year, be it light or dark wood. But Terrazzo - widely used in commercial institutions such as restaurants, bars and school renovation projects - will rule in 2019. Terrazzo is a blend of marble and quartz, lending a lustrous, luxurious sheen. Marble remains timeless. There’s an increase in marble pieces in bold, contrasting colours that can be used in the island or countertops. Ceramic and metro tiles continue to be popular. Use colourful patterned tiles to highlight an accent piece such as the backsplash, flooring border or the outer siding of your kitchen island.
